How to Measure Interest in Out-of-Stock Products
Measure restock demand with waitlists
When a product sells out, the interest does not disappear - it scatters. Customers email, message, and comment, and none of it is counted. A hosted waitlist gives that interest one structured home: an email, a product, a variant, a timestamp, and a consent record. Count active signups, separate verified from unverified addresses, and look at the last seven days separately from the all-time total. Recency matters because a signup from yesterday is a stronger operational signal than one from last season. Treat the count as Waitlist Interest: a real measurement of expressed interest, and the best input you have before placing the next order - without pretending it is a sales forecast.
Shelfetti provides waitlist demand signals and consent-based notifications. Signups are expressions of interest, not guaranteed sales.
